The Trappist

Visited last weekend and was surprised to find this spot tucked away in Old Oakland. Outdoor space only at the moment per covid, but there is a fair amount of benches available - some closer to the shade and another area directly in the sun. Currently their standard food items are unavailable so they has a pop up of food which was just two chili options / meat and vegetarian. It was actually quite tasty but I was a little disappointed that their food wasn't available (though understandable). There's a great selection of beers and our server was very knowledgeable on the different types. They have a good variety of sours, which is always a good sign to me! I also had no idea the history behind Trappist breweries, so if you didn't either I'd recommend looking into it! It's super interesting (I won't spoil it for you ). We really liked this little spot and it wasn't very busy on a Sunday afternoon so you're bound to get a spot. A nice beer garden to go to if you don't want to cram to find a space and actually want to socially distance.

If you are a beer enthusiast or no nothing about beer but need the best place to hangout outdoors, then look no further cause The Trappist is the best. The service has always been on point and friendliest. No snobbery here for the quality they provide. Due to covid they also have food around. Love this spot. Cheers!

We decided to do a late night run to a local watering hole while staying at the Hampton inn downtown Oakland. This bar was open late and it appeared less crowded and rambunctious than others around. Inside, the decor was nice and it looked cleaned and organized. The bartender which was the only person staffed, was friendly and very attentive. The kitchen was closed but we did arrive around 10pm. I gave it four stars out of five because it really only deserves 3 for having a very selective menu and one star for the extremely good customer service from the bartender. This is not a usual bar in the sense of having the ability to make cocktails and other types of drinks. They have a very selective beer menu and very very selective cocktails which include two types Bourbon and or gin. Not much else. A nice place up get a drink.
